Alleged hotel robbery mastermind denied bail

THE alleged mastermind of the East End Hotel armed robbery in September has been denied bail.

But while police have Kacey Lea Porter firmly behind bars, they are yet to determine which of the hotel's workers fed information to her.

Although it was two men in balaclavas with a rifle and crowbar, who stole $24,000 from the Bundaberg hotel, the 24-year-old is accused of coming up with the idea and "counselling" the men.

Ms Porter allegedly obtained crucial information about access points and the time the hotel would have the most money on the premises from a female hotel worker.

She also allegedly asked a man to listen to a police scanner during the robbery and booked a car, with a fake ID, which was supposedly used after the robbery.

The Department of Public Prosecutions argued against granting her bail, saying the robbery's high level of sophistication indicated she was capable of intimidating crown witnesses.

But Ms Porter's lawyer, Jakub Lodziak, said she could have used her links to drug dealers to intimidate the witnesses while she was in custody.

He said that had not occurred.

Ms Porter has been in custody for more than 10 weeks.

Justice James Douglas agreed with the crown's argument and refused bail.

He said she had recently been sacked, was using methamphetamine and her boyfriend had been involved in the robbery.
