Alleged bikie associate denied bail
THE promise of life sporadic work while under the guardianship of a responsible couple was not enough for a man with alleged bikie links to be released on bail.
Lloyd Michael Foran, 18, who with his older brother Geoffrey Declan Foran allegedly extorted a man for drugs in Bundaberg, had already been denied bail once.
The teenager's defence barrister, Michael Copley, said a couple aged in their 60s in Caboolture were willing to have him at their home while he was on bail.
Mr Copley said the man was self-employed and would be able to offer Mr Foran, who is allegedly an associate of outlaw motorcycle gang the Bandidos, part-time employment.
He emphasised it was away from Bundaberg and Warwick, where most of Mr Foran's regular offending had occurred.
Mr Copley said the couple, who do not have a criminal history, would have a "sombre" influence on Mr Foran and he could participate in a substance abuse program.
The program made up part of his probation before he was taken into custody.
Justice Peter Lyons said Mr Foran had a "relatively persistent pattern of offending".
He accepted staying with the couple might be beneficial and could reduce the chance Mr Foran would break the law again, but refused the application upon taking into account Mr Foran's re-offending.
