All musicians welcome at first open mic night

THE first open mic night will kick off at Lightbox Espresso Bar tonight, with all aspiring musicians welcome and encouraged to have a go.

Gladstone musician Nathan Bedford has teamed up with the owners of the bar to organise the Gladstone first.

He said it was a great opportunity for musicians to play originals, or for "backyard singers" to take the next step and perform in front of a crowd.

"I want to create an atmosphere that will nurture those people who want to experience performing for the first time, and those who want to perform something of their own," Mr Bedford said.

"There's a lot of very talented musicians who can't gig all the time but still want to perform."

The event was announced this week and already he has had interest from more than 40 musicians.

He said if tonight went well it would become a regular event.

Registrations will be taken from 6pm at Lightbox Espresso Bar on Goondoon St.
