ALL eyes were on Capras five-eighth Reece Baker as he stole the show on Saturday night for the home side in a tight Queensland Intrust Super Cup trial.

Despite wet conditions, 800 die-hard Central Queensland rugby league fans turned out to witness Rockhampton Leagues Club Capras player Baker turn it on in the preseason trial against Sunshine Coast Falcons at Gary Larson Oval, Miriam Vale.

While the Capras lost 38-28 to the Falcons, Baker was the Capras' best.

The vocal player said he was rapt with his performance.

"It was a really good game," Baker said. "I thought I did quite well and hopefully I've earned a spot in the team this year.

"It was disappointing to have a loss but being the first trial game and in wet conditions with a slippery ball it's hard to gauge where we are at."

Baker was hopeful of a spot in the Capras clash with Papua New Guinea Hunters on Saturday night, and if Capras coach Jason Hetherington's comments about his performance provide any guide, it's likely he will be pulling on the strip again.

"I thought Reece Baker was outstanding," Hetherington said.

"He was always on the ball and was moving up off the line quick and trying to add a little bit of energy into the boys.

"He's a winner. He competes hard and that's why I thought he was our best player."

Hetherington tried 28 players during the match and believed he now has a better understanding of the areas his needs to improve. "I was happy with the boys. Obviously we didn't get a win, but we used it as a trial," the coach said.

"They all got a fair run and a fair opportunity and that's what I was looking for.

"All in-all, they tried hard but there's a little bit, we can work on."

Hetherington said the Capras squad would be cut down before facing PNG.

After suffering injuries against the Falcons, Daniel Bertucci and Jacob Langdon could be on the sidelines.

"Bertucci has had a bit of an ongoing knee problem. He was probably our best player until he came off, so he was a loss for us," he said. "Langdon doesn't look good. I'm not a doctor but his shoulder looked like it was popped out.

"Hopefully he'll be okay and I think Bertucci will be all right, with a bit of care."

The Capras face the Hunters at Browne Park on Saturday at 7pm.
