All Blacks sneak home with win over the Scots

ALL Blacks coach Steve Hansen was looking for new combinations, versatility and options against Scotland after making 13 changes to the team that edged out England last weekend.

What he got was uncertainty and mistakes, as well as a continuation of the sloppy starts the team has produced in recent games against South Africa, Australia and England.

In the end the class of the New Zealanders was enough to eke out a 24-16 win in front of a crowd of 66,000 at Murrayfield.

The best period of the game for the All Blacks, who missed the crispness of halfback Aaron Smith and the directness of No.8 Kieran Read, came after replacements Sonny Bill Williams (pictured), Julian Savea, Ben Franks and Luke Romano joined the fray in the second half.

SCORE: All Blacks 24 (Vito, Thrush tries; Carter 3 pens, Slade pen, con) Scotland 16 (Seymour try; Laidlaw con, 3 pens).
