Alexis is a Cubist

NAME: Alexis Smith

Occupation: Tondoon Botanic Gardens visitor services officer.

Years lived in Gladstone: One

What you love about where you live: Being so close to the beach and the reef. As an American we view the reef as this great dream and now I'm here.

How do you take your favourite drink? Peppermint tea, preferably hot with loose leaf tea.

When I was young, my dream was to…be a marine biologist and come study in Australia. I ended up studying economics.

I can't remember the last time I…filled up my car with fuel. I conveniently use my partner's car when mine's empty.

My most memorable pet is…my dog Boo Radley, named after the To Kill A Mockingbird character. He's a samoyed with a bubbly personality. He's goofy and cheeky, and just turned one.

My secret talent is…that I collect and can solve Rubik's Cubes but I don't time myself.

When I feel like splurging, I…buy tea, I have a tea addiction.

My favourite holiday destination is…the Caribbean. I've gotten to see a lot of it; it's easy to get to from Alabama.

Crunchy peanut butter…is something I can't live without. I didn't realize how addicted to peanut butter Americans are. There's something about peanut butter and jalapenos on a burger.

Emma Stone…would play me in the movie about my life. She seems to be outgoing and social and quirky and I'm definitely quirky.

The best piece of wisdom I've been told is…to minimize my regrets. It's along the lines of: accept it, don't regret it.

What are you spruiking? We're starting a program called Lessons in the Gardens where students can have their lessons at Tondoon Botanic Gardens and it aligns with the national curriculum for Grades Prep to 6.
