Readers, Rockhampton mayor want Aldi to set up shop in city

ALTHOUGH Aldi has not got Rockhampton on its next location list, Mayor Margaret Strelow is pushing to see one open here soon.

The Rockhampton Mayor this week issued a statement saying there was a strong interest within the community for an Aldi store. Aldi is a discount supermarket with seven stores across Queensland and 21 stores nationally.

Cr Strelow said she had been in talks with the management company in November last year, but unfortunately Rockhampton was not on their radar at this point in time.

"I have seen firsthand the success of Aldi stores in other regions and believe it would be beneficial in our growing community," Cr Strelow said.

"I have asked them to keep us in the forefront of the minds when making decisions on the next location, and I look forward to welcoming them into our community when they decide to do so."

The Morning Bulletin attempted to contact Aldi yesterday for comment but they were unable to respond by the time the story went to print.
