Aldi continues with plans to open Gladstone store

ALDI is continuing to develop its plans to open a store in Gladstone.

An Aldi spokesman said the company was moving ahead with its Gladstone plans despite there being no movement on purchasing a block or constructing the store at the proposed site on the corner of Boles and Breslin Sts.

"It's still really early in the planning stages," the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, a credit agency report released on Monday said Aldi's expansion plans nationally could eventually challenge the Coles-Woolworths duopoly.

Moody's vice-president and senior analyst Ian Chitterer said margins at Woolworths and Coles were likely to change as they cut prices and invested in stores to protect their dominant market share.

Aldi submitted a development application for the Boles St site to Gladstone Regional Council in December.

The store is expected to open this year.
