Agnes pair are punching above their age weight

SURFING: They didn't quite get top spots, but Agnes Water siblings Alki and Pixie Kallas certainly more than matched it against older opponents.

Competing at the 2018 HIF Agnes Water Surf Festival, Alki, 14 and Pixie, 12, both finished second in the under-18 boys' and girls' longboard and shortboard categories respectively.

Noosa Heads' Kaiden Smales overcame an early deficit to pip Alkie while Holly Clark (Currumbin Waters) held off Pixie.

Conditions were described as ideal and Alki said while he surfed against some of his friends he made from previous competitions, it's a case of "water-line" fever once competition starts.

"I know a lot of people who I am up against and I am friends with some of them, but they don't give me any tips."

But Wayne "Grom" Mellick is one who does and Alki said he couldn't thank him enough.

"Grom is awesome and he helps Pixie and I with everything," Alki said.

"He gets us nice and fit and he always talks about surfing."

Alki and Pixie's father Ang said for the brother and sister, who are also a part of the Discovery Surfing Academy, surfing was in their blood way before they joined the academy.

"We travel a lot and compete and the kids are out of bed each morning when the surf is good," Ang said.

The proud dad said Alki and Pixie had also joined the Noosa Boardriders Club so they could rise to more challenges and competitions.

Agnes Water resident Arci Doble took out the U18 Boys' Longboard final and finished second in the Open Men's Longboard final behind Jarred Sunderland (Peregian Springs).
