TOURISTS have started to inundate Agnes Water for the annual Agnes Blues and Roots Festival.

Thursday marked the first day of the event beloved by locals and music loves further afield.

The first day was free day for attendees - ticket information here.

Gladstone region Mayor Gail Sellers said the Agnes Blues and Roots Festival was introduced to help the local economy.

"It was initiated by the Gladstone Entertainment Centre staff and we wanted to help outlying regional areas, so we looked at the accommodation houses in Agnes and we asked which was their worst weekend and they said February," Cr Sellers said.

A number of Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre staff made the trip down to Agnes Water on Thursday to join the staff and volunteers already involved in the setting up process.

The majority of rest of festival goers are expected to arrive in the area on Friday in time for a big line-up of entertainment.
