In-form Pacheco poised for blitz at Gladstone meeet

AGE Champion last weekend in Rockhampton, Lachlan Pacheco simply smiled at the thought of repeating the feat in his home pool.

Getting the chance while in a rich vein of form, Lachlan will be a part of the Gladstone Gladiators' 21-strong team hoping to dominate the Harbour City swim meet.

With a total of 252 competitors entering, Lachlan will need to be at his best to accomplish the same results as his recent swims, however.

"I should go all right. In the competition last week I was age champion and won three out of four 50m races and came second in the other," the 12-year-old said.

Also entered in four 100m races, one of each stroke, and two 200m and two relay events, Lachlan has a big weekend ahead of him.

Starting at 6pm tonight at Gladstone Aquatic Centre, the meet acts as more than simply a race event.

Times are very important, with the meet offering the chance for qualification for the 2014 Queensland sprint championships, state titles, national titles and Central Queensland championships; a number of which Lachlan is eyeing off, even though he is not quite sure of what times he will need to post just yet.

"I am not sure, it will be hard with 12 events total," he said.

Having been swimming competitively since he was just six, Lachlan will not only expend energy in the pool, but also during the hours spent with his team-mates, making their success as important as his.

"In Gladstone my best memories are probably just when everyone gets together," he said.
