Affected fishers urged to apply for compensation program

GLADSTONE Ports Corporation have reminded commercial fishermen that they can apply for compensation under the Western Basin Dredging and Disposal Project (WBDDP) Commercial Fisheries Compensation Program.

Applications close Friday, May 10, and are open to operators who fished in catch sites 12, 13, 17 and 18 of Grid S30 in Gladstone Harbour.

GPC would not reveal how many applications it had received for compensation to date.

CEO Leo Zussino said he would like to see every eligible commercial fishing operator take advantage of the opportunity.

"If you're a commercial fishing operator and have been affected by a loss of access to fishing areas due to current developments I would encourage you to apply," Mr Zussino said.
