Advocate slams dog breeders out for cash

A LEADING animal welfare advocate has blasted Gladstone region dog owners who breed their animals to make a bit of cash.

Friends of Gladstone RSPCA president Judy Whicker has warned owners after 28 puppies were facing imminent death at a central Queensland animal shelter.

"I notice on (the Facebook page) Gladstone Pet Classified there are quite a few people trying to sell pups and give away kittens," Mrs Whicker said.

"Last week there were 28 puppies on death row (in Rockhampton).

"Our group gets so cranky when we see all the pups and kittens advertised.

"It seems people only want their animals so they can get some spare cash.

"A few have gone to other rescue groups and we have taken on four labby cross pups."
