Adani activists suspected of revenge attack

A BOWEN businesswoman is blaming damage done to her shopfront on anti-coal protesters.

Tracey Bazzo owns Bowen Pools and Pumps and alleges anti-Adani activists were responsible for smashing the building's front window overnight on Saturday.

She believes her shop, where she displays signs of support for Adani and its Carmichael mine, is a target.

"Someone apparently doesn't like my views on Adani," she said.

She believes the vandal punched the window with their fist.

Despite the attack, Ms Bazzo said she would not be deterred.

"As if this will stop me," she said. "Yes, you are going to cost me money to have this repaired but it's a small, small price to pay. I won't give in."

Ms Bazzo said Adani was important for Bowen, Mackay, Townsville and North Queensland.

"We've just been through Cyclone Debbie and we've been through a massive emotional time," she said.

"Emotions are running high in this town. I have been to funerals where people have committed suicide over not being able to survive the downturn.

"I am going to speak up for those people and the general population to say to them, we need Adani."

She thanked police for investigating and urged locals to stick together in support of Adani.

"Keep together Bowen. Power to the people," she said.

Police last night confirmed the incident was being investigated.
