Gladstone four make Netball QLD regional academy

GLADSTONE'S netball quartet of Yasmin Ramsay, Sharni Small, Lily Peachey and Suskia Paitai survived the cut last Sunday to make the Netball QLD Regional Academy.

They are a part of a squad of 19 which was reduced from 87 young netballers who trialled in Rockhampton.

Gladstone Netball Association publicity officer Amanda Ramsay said it will be a busy period in the next few months for the teenagers.

"They will be in four to five training camps in the next 10 months with the first being in Brisbane," Ramsay said.

"There are 12 regions that will come together in Brisbane and of about 240 players, 30 will be chosen."

Ramsay said it's a pathway that bears potential recognition toward QLD under-17 team selection.

Sixteen-year-old Yasmin will be entering her third academy trials.

"It's pretty exciting and it will help further my skills," goal defender and wing defender Yasmin said.

Yasmine's three team-mates are in the academy for the first time. See Saturday's Observer for what they have to say.
