Academy coach has been announced
SOCCER: Football Central Queensland Premier League's latest entity Central has received another boost.
The Gladstone-based club will run an academy designed to help develop players in the under-8 to 12 age bracket under the guidance of Andrew McCarthy.
McCarthy has had a long playing career as well as extensive coaching experience in the strong Northern Rivers district of NSW and Redlands Football Club in Brisbane.
He was lured to the Central by the club's long-serving president Ross Maudsley, who said it was exciting at the club.
"We're going to hopefully have some of our Premier League players help out as well," Maudsley said of the academy, which is likely to start either later next month or in early March.
McCarthy is the branch manager at Shine Lawyers and it was there where Maudsley lured him to Central.
"I went up and saw him in his office there and from there we just sort of built up a relationship and he agreed to come on board to oversee our program," Maudsley said.
The start dates of the academy have not yet been confirmed and Maudsley said the club will have a meeting tonight to iron out the finer details.
"We're still doing preliminary steps that we need to do and how to set it up," he said.
The club is to field a division one and reserve grade in the Premier League.
"We just see it as a great step forward for the club with all this to give our younger players a pathway," Maudsley said.
Youngsters interested to join the academy can contact Maudsley on 0414487288 or the club's junior registrar Julie Porter on 0407125377.
