ABC gardening presenter headlines Ecofest 2015
THE ABC's gardening presenter Jerry Coleby-Williams will return for this year's Ecofest in Gladstone.
Mr Coleby-Williams, who was manager of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney for 11 years, will discuss the 21st Century cottage garden, which places an emphasis on integrating biodiversity management, pest and disease control and horticulture.
He is set to headline the event on May 31 with a number of other guest speakers.
Mr Coleby-Williams will provide keen gardeners with insights into how to use plant and animal allies to help create a productive garden and put traditional, seasonal and organic food on the table.
Councillor Col Chapman said visitors to Ecofest 2015 would have the opportunity to learn from speakers from a wide array of expertise, ranging from the health of the Great Barrier Reef and the future of industrial development in the Gladstone Region, through to holistic health and wellbeing and the personal and environmental benefits of eating locally produced food.
"In keeping with this year's Ecofest theme Grown in Gladstone, the majority of speakers are from the Gladstone region, and the knowledge they possess of their chosen professions will make for interesting presentations on the day," Cr Chapman said.
There will be plenty of entertainment for all ages at Ecofest 2015 with children's rides and activities, native animals, guided gardens tours, arts, crafts and food stalls and a Harbour Watch barge trip which provides an educational guide to the Gladstone Harbour.
Ecofest 2015 runs from 9am to 3pm at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens.
