Abbott's apprenticeship program called a “drop in the ocean”

AUSTRALIA'S peak social services group has labelled the Abbott Government's new apprenticeship program a "drop in the ocean".

Australian Council of Social Services chief executive Dr Cassandra Goldie made the comment on Tuesday after Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced the program on Monday.

She said it would only support 10,000 training places, compared with 100,000 welfare recipients who could lose out due to planned budget changes to the income support system.
