Abbott off to PNG for one-on-one meetings with PM
PRIME Minister Tony Abbott will head to Papua New Guinea on Thursday for one-on-one meetings with Prime Minister Peter O'Neill.
The three-day trip will focus on building business, trade, aid, security and defence ties, a statement from Mr Abbott's office said.
But while the PNG Government runs Australia's offshore detention centre on Manus Island, there was no mention of asylum seeker issues being on the agenda.
Mr Abbott said during the visit he would open a series of "aid-funded facilities" including at a Port Moresby schools, and meet with Australian Federal Police officers working with PNG authorities.
