Abbey secures classical award at Gladstone Dance Festival

ABBEY Murray, 12, was one of numerous dancers from across the region who had the chance to shine on stage at the Gladstone Dance Festival.

The talented dancer from Ramptons Danzenergy Studio won the Wendy Barker Dance Studio Trophy, which is the classical aggregate award for competitors aged 11, 12 and 13 years.

At the weekend's festival, Abbey competed in several solos and a couple of trios, and secured placing in numerous dances.

She said she had been practising since the start of the year.

"I had a couple of new routines this year so I had a bit more work," she said.

"It's really fun. All the local dancers support each other. It's good to have a competition with just local dancers to show the talent."

Abbey competes at the Gladstone Dance Festival annually, as well as the Gladstone and Bundaberg eisteddfods.

Abbey hopes to finish all of her tap and ballet exams.
