Big try haul not enough to snatch victory for Seagulls
WILL O'Brien was one try away from being Tannum Sands Seagulls' shining hero against Wallabys on Sunday afternoon, coming perilously close to snatching the match when trying to latch onto a bobbling ball.
The tired interchange was unable to push the Seagulls to victory, though he can hardly be blamed for his side's loss.
It would have been O'Brien's fifth try for the A-grade side, adding to his day's tally of six after a double in the Reserve grade as well.
"I have had a fair few lucky days but not at this grade or intensity," he said of his big haul.
"It is about being competitive but we just fell off."
O'Brien and his teammates had looked likely to come back numerous times in the second half with a number of tries but gave up the same amount in return.
The performance shows Tannum Sands are on the pace with the competition even with players backing up, like O'Brien does.
"We are short and need the numbers and I like to make it easy on everyone by helping out," he said. "You always try and score a try."
