Former bailiff and 'treasure of a man' remembered
A BELOVED father, grandfather, friend and husband - local bailiff Mike Fox is remembered today on what would have been his 61st birthday.
A fan of hawaiian shirts, the Western Bulldogs and golf, Mr Fox was an instrumental part of the Gladstone community.
"He was the most loving, genuine, wise, caring, inspirational, dag of a bloke," daughter Chantelle Larner said.
"My dad was my absolute hero. He was my greatest supporter, especially when I was diagnosed with breast cancer nearly four years ago."
Mr Fox was known for the compassion he showed in his work and the generous way he donated his time as treasurer and district governor of the Boyne/Tannum Lions Club.
After many years living in Victoria, Mr Fox immediately fell in love with the Boyne/Tannum area, impulsively purchasing a property in 1995 and never looking back.
Gladstone provided an opportunity for Mr Fox to dote upon his family during semi-retirement.
"He was an absolute treasure," Ms Larner said. "He was very well loved by the community, and he loved fulfilling his role as bailiff."
Mr Fox's family will honour his memory in an annual family camping trip around his birthday, and by continuing to recite his three favourite words: "Go the Doggies!"
