A playoff spot still possible for Phoenix Power men's side

PREDICTING the future is impossible, but impacting it is not.

For Dale Iwanicki's Gladstone Phoenix Power, the ability to impact their future prospects has been at their fingertips all season, and they have not yet been able to make a positive move into the playoffs.

Iwanicki believes that all stops now.

"We have the best run home out of any team. We had three games to secure a playoff spot and we still haven't guaranteed it," he said.

But that doesn't leave the side hopeless.

Sitting sixth on the Queensland Basketball League ladder, a streak of four home court matches gives the squad every opportunity to impact the future.

The Power have a winning record against Townsville, and while sitting just behind the northern side on the standings, a good finish to the season will likely move the Gladstone group into the post season.

After a solid win 70-63 over Mackay last weekend, the Power play tonight against the Suncoast Clippers, who have only managed two wins from their eight matches this season.

"It is a game we should win, but if we think we just go in and win, they will beat us," Iwanicki said.

"They have two really good imports, and the coach's two sons are back from New Zealand."

The Power must win the match-up with the Clippers, before moving on to face off against South West Metro (1-10), Gold Coast (4-6) and Cairns (9-2).

Coach Iwanicki believes that three wins from the final four matches should be enough for a playoff berth, as Townsville face the tough run of the top four sides, Cairns, Brisbane, Northside and Mackay, three of which are away matches.

The Power squad is also welcoming the unusual opportunity of having a fully fit squad, with Justin Baker, Blair Smith and Shaun Gleeson all having issues throughout the season.

The match tips off at Kev Broome Stadium at 8.30pm.
