A ladies' day on the green

LAWN BOWLS: Despite the sultry weather, seven women from the Gladstone Ladies Bowls Club played in the club's opening day yesterday afternoon.

Senior vice-president of the Gladstone Ladies Bowls Club Lori Miller said she hopes the day will kick-start renewed interest in lawn bowls.

"It's just a social day for the ladies club and we can always do with more members," Miller said.

Gladstone Ladies Bowls Club currently has 26 members, but there's something that may lure new members.

New lights will be installed on the bottom green in the next few weeks which will allow competitions to be played at night.

"Having lights to be installed will be a bonus," Miller said.

The ladies play each Wednesday and Thursday and with their male counterparts on Saturdays.

Member Jennine Lockwood also encourages beginners to come to the club on Tuesday afternoons from 3.30pm.
