A galloping success
COMPETITORS came from as far as Bundaberg and Bowen to compete at Gladstone Calliope Equestrian Group Inc championships.
The Two-Star event was held at Mt Larcom showgrounds recently. Early starts were necessary on both days to allow for the high number of entries.
Classes from RDA Walk to Grand Prix were offered and it was pleasing to see an increase in the number of competitors in the higher levels.
A level judges Clem Kelly, Phillipa Poulsen and Julie Watson officiated the event.
Kelly was impressed to see the improvement in the standard of both horses and riders since he was here two years ago.
“All riders appear to be on the right track,” he said.
Visitors from other centres were pleased with the standard of competition and commented on the grounds and the friendliness of the group.
Pamela Schuler, who travelled from Bowen for the event, took out the Official Elementary and Official Medium Champion categories, and gave a big thank-you to the organising committee.
“It was lovely to make the long drive down from Bowen with my two horses, and I hope to be back next year with maybe three horses on board.” she said.
The next event is a three-day jumping and dressage school with coach Shane Davidson on October 1-3. The final dressage competition is on October 31.
