Man pays price for munchies run after uni party

HEADING for McDonalds after a dormitory party proved expensive for an international USQ student.

Pranava Koteswara Rao Kodela crashed the car he was driving into a fence when heading off from the University of Southern Queensland's student village late on January 23, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

The 24-year-old blew a breath/alcohol reading 0.2, police prosecutor Sergeant Tim Hutton told the court.

Kodela was not in court but was represented by his solicitor Andrew Wiseman who told the court his client had returned to India due to a death in the family but he was expected to return to Toowoomba in May.

Mr Wiseman said his client had instructed him to enter a plea of guilty to the charge of driving while under the influence of liquor.

His client instructed he had been drinking at a dorm party but had become hungry and had gone for a feed of McDonalds.

Kodela was remorseful for what had happened and had since enrolled in a safe driving course, Mr Wiseman submitted.

Noting Kodela had already been without his driver's licence since the incident, Magistrate Graham Lee fined him $1250 and disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver's licence for 12 months.
