Big shed the front door to Curtis Island QCLNG project

A BIG shed that will serve as a $7.5 million front door to Curtis Island was the forefront of Queensland Gas Company celebrations on Friday.

The 2000sq m supply base will be the control point for all equipment and materials going to and from the QCLNG plant once it is operating.

QGC operations director Walter Simpson said it signified the first step from construction to operation.

"It may appear to be just a supply base, but it's a major milestone," he said.

Mayor Gail Sellers officially opened the first operational QGC site in the city and was pleased to hear of QGC's $1 billion of local contracts.

"It's refreshing to hear those figures on the local spend in the community," she said.
