Tomic's ranking threatened if he fails at Wimbledon

TENNIS: After making the last 16 at Wimbledon in 2013, Aussie Bernard Tomic faces the prospect of dropping out of the world's top 100 if he doesn't reach at least the third round this year.

That will be a tall order considering the 21-year-old face sixth seed Tomas Berdych in tonight's second round clash. Tomic needed just 86 minutes to beat Russia's Evgeny Donskoy 6-4 6-3 6-2 in the first round, while Berdych needed four sets to get past Romania's Victor Hanescu 6-7 6-1 6-4 6-3.

Four other Aussies will play their second-round matches tonight: Marinko Matosevic will face Frenchman Jeremy Chardy and Luke Saville will take on No.11 seed Grigor Dimitrov.

Casey Dellacqua and Jarmila Gjadosova will also be involved, but their opponents were unclear after a number of first-round matches were delayed by rain.

Two other Australians, No.17 seed Sam Stosur and big-serving Sam Groth, lost their first-round matches.
