Socceroos climb the ranks ahead of their clash with Germany

THE Socceroos will go into next month's clash with world champion Germany with plenty of confidence after rising up to 63 in the latest FIFA rankings.

Ange Postecoglou's team has jumped 37 places on the back of its Asian Cup success last month and will certainly give Germany a run for its money in Kaiserslautern on March 25 as it builds up for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers later this year.

Despite beating South Korea in the Asian Cup final, Australia, captained by Mile Jedinak (pictured) is still behind its rival, which is at 54, after its own rise of 15 places.

Japan has dropped one place down to 55, while Iran, which reached the Asian Cup quarter-finals, jumped 10 places to 41.

Germany remained top, with Argentina second and fellow South Americans Colombia third.

Belgium stayed in fourth ahead of the Netherlands, while World Cup host Brazil was sixth.

Africa Cup of Nations champion Ivory Coast moved up eight places to 20th, while beaten finalist Ghana gained 12 places to sit 25th.
