Residents take shelter as bushfires tear through Moyston

RESIDENTS of a town in Victoria have been told to take shelter as bushfires tear through the region and put the entire state on alert.

The Country Fire Authority issued a warning to Moyston in the state's west yesterday, telling residents they were "in danger" and "it was too late to leave".

Authorities expected to issue warnings to Victorian residents this morning with the heat creating extreme fire danger conditions.

Firefighters deployed 13 aircraft and 20 tankers to Moyston yesterday.

New South Wales authorities were dealing with 14 fires across the state yesterday afternoon, but only one was deemed out of control - a grassfire at the Mary Flynn Campground at Hill End in the Bathurst region.

Queensland firefighters were tackling vegetation fires in Bringalily, Tiaro, Abergowrie and Wallaman, but said none of them posed an immediate threat.
