Marlborough mum makes it easy to take baby food on the run
MARLBOROUGH'S Krystal Caton has come up with a good way to have hungry kids dribbling for more.
The Marlborough woman could solve problems several on-the-go mothers face when trying to juggle feeding their young children and work commitments.
She has created Zestio, a new range of reusable pouches that parents can fill with healthy purees, home-made smoothies, yoghurt and soup to feed children.
They can also be used for salad dressings and other things.
Krysal has also created a number of accessories to complement the pouches. One is an Australian-made Zestio pouch-topper: a silicone attachment that covers the hard rough areas of the spout to give babies a protective surface to suck from.
Krystal, a mother of two girls under the age of three, found the supermarket pouches convenient but that they contained unnecessary ingredients. She preferred to feed her children natural homemade foods.
She started researching ideas more than a year ago to make the child-feeding experience safer and healthier.
She said she regarded the store-bought pouches as unsafe for new babies because they could hurt their gums on the sharp edges.
Being an organic farmer and businesswoman, alongside her husband, Krystal believes in the natural ingredients for children.
She said one of the reasons she started Zestio was because food pouches from the supermarket were convenient but expensive.
"They were lacking in nutritional value," she said. She wanted a product that would allow parents a store-bought convenience but with home-made goodness, while being mindful of the environment.
"These pouches (Zestio) are convenient for your child's lunch box, too," she said.
"The square shape and corner spout make them an easy fit - no need to fold over the spout.
