Kids wow judges at Gladstone eisteddfod

DAY three of the 2014 Gladstone City Eisteddfod saw children compete in 12 categories of instrumental sections, giving it their best shot.

Young violinists, clarinet, saxophone and flute players impressed adjudicators with their effort and polished performance on stage.

Georgia Staines donned a tropical fruit headpiece for her performance in the flute solo - 10 years and under. She played the song Copacabana.

Kynan Elliot took out the saxophone solo for 11 and 12 years. Although Kynan was triumphant in the end, he started his performance facing the wrong direction.

Accompanist Helga Bartosh kindly directed him to the correct position and he was off and away.

The mixed brass solo, woodwind duo/trio, recorder band, piano duet, fretted instrumental and strings duo/trio were some of the other categories on yesterday's agenda.

Monday's proceedings saw Varsicka Kularadhan, Sam Cosgrove and Kaityln Read as performance highlights in the piano sections.

There will be an instrumental trophy presentation on tonight at the GECC where 29 awards are up for grabs.
