Eric Abetz: Tony Abbott is “absolutely no Kevin Rudd”

A CLOSE ally of Tony Abbott's has rejected comparisons to Kevin Rudd after Mr Abbott confirmed he would recontest his seat at the coming election.

Mr Abbott released a statement briefly confirming he would stand again for his electorate, Warringah, at the 2016 poll.

But close Liberal colleague Eric Abetz Monday told ABC Radio Mr Abbott was "absolutely no Kevin Rudd", who stayed in parliament only to recontest the Labor leadership against then-prime minister Julia Gillard.

Senator Abetz said Kevin Rudd was "about one thing only - Kevin Rudd" whereas Mr Abbott was all about "the Australian people".
