MOTOR RACING: Morgan Park will again be alive with the roar of engines on the weekend, as 90 riders race into the Rose City for the second round of the Pirelli Southern Downs Road Race Series and Queensland Road Race Championships.
Competition is set to heat up in all classes and events when racing action kicks off at 8.30am tomorrow.
Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland vice-president Simon Dickson said the races were the biggest state level event in Queensland.
"These events are the premier road racing series in the state," he said.
"The level of competition over the last few years has really taken off."
There will be a number of classes on track including Formula 3 or Moto 3, with 110 motorbikes expected on the day. For Formula 3 and Moto 3 competitors it will be their first round of two that will count toward deciding Queensland's 2014 Champions.
Dickson, who will also ride in this weekend's event, said the layout of Morgan Park Raceway continued to attract riders to Warwick.
"Everyone loves the layout of Morgan Park," he said.
"The track layout if great for all capacity bikes.
"It's very technical in comparison to the Queensland Raceway."
The weather is looking very good for organisers, with riders coming from as far afield as Brisbane, Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
Entry to the races is free for the weekend, with spectators encouraged to bring along their kids and go down to the pits and have a chat with some of the riders. Gates open at 7.30am each day, with racing action from 8.30am.
