$8000 diamond ring stolen from shopping centre jeweller

A BRAZEN thief has made off with an $8000 engagement ring from a Bundaberg jewellery store.

Just before noon today the man entered the Michael Hill store at Stockland Sugarland and asked to look at an engagement ring.

Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Bishop said the man told staff he was getting engaged before making off with the solitaire-diamond white gold ring.

Det Snr Sgt Bishop said the man had gone into the store about 11.50am and then fled with the ring.

"He proceeded into the store, stated that he was looking for an engagement ring as he was going to propose in three weeks," he said.

"He was given a ring to inspect and has then subsequently decamped.

"We've conducted extensive searches but we haven't located the male at this point

Det Snr Sgt Bishop said police would be conducting strenuous inquires and reviewing CCTV footage in an attempt to track down the offender.

The man is described as Caucasian and was wearing a white hat, sunglasses and a hooded top.

The ring was a 0.75ct solitaire diamond set in 18ct white gold.
