Population swells with 8000 staff working on LNG projects
THERE are now 8000 workers constructing LNG projects on Curtis Island.
To put that number in perspective, the entire city of Gladstone has an official population of about 33,000.
Photos taken from the harbour on Thursday showed the three LNG projects being constructed by Bechtel were progressing well in terms of construction.
That is not to say everything is going well off the field, as some proponents appear to be stalling on decisions about planned expansions beyond their Stage 1 developments.
A trip past the three projects shows the enormity of them.
Each site is the size of a small town, although they take only a small part of the entire island.
The number of workers on Curtis Island is rising steadily and will be just under 9000 during peak construction of the projects, which are being built independently of each other.
