5 things you need to know today: Gladstone
One. Tracey Pavlov says the Into Love Adult Superstore is always busy. Despite many businesses finding it tough in Gladstone since construction eased on Curtis Island she said everything sells at the only adult store in town. "Our most popular are male enhancement tablets, the big dongas down the back, blow-up dolls and the DVDs," she said. "We do a DVD swap where people pay the original price but can bring it back and exchange it for $15." (The names of other top selling items were kept out of this small story)
Two. We had a nice downpour in Gladstone yesterday morning, with Radar Hill receiving 16mm in half an hour. A west south westerly breeze brought in the rain at about 9.30am. There had only been 2mm fall from midnight until then and by 10am there was 18mm recorded. By 6pm only another 2.2mm had fallen.
Three. There has been some groundwork at the 1 Dawson Hwy site for the proposed service station. The yard has been tidied and some trees moved. The material change of use development application with the council is still in the information and referral stage. Before the application is approved the applicant must do a public consultation.
Four. Dante's Store on Toolooa St has been that busy since it opened three weeks ago that the owners are desperate for their new stock to arrive on Sunday. The Asian grocery store is built out the front of their new home which is a clever way of making their property mixed use.
Five. The evening high tides are getting bigger and bigger this week. Today we have a morning high of 4.17m at 7.52 and a 4.47m high at 8.21pm. The low tides are a 0.65m at 1.49am and a 0.33m at 2.13pm. Tomorrow there is a 4.16m high at 8.40am and a 4.16m at 9.07pm. The lows are a 0.49m at 2.39am and a 0.27m at 2.57pm.
