Think someone's taking your cash? Here's how you sting them

WHEN staff at the Maroochydore police communications centre noticed personal money going missing they knew just what to do.

They set up an operation to catch the thief.

Police prosecutor Stu Lydford told Maroochydore Magistrates Court a $5 note was marked and placed in a tin, and after it disappeared it was found on Nathan John Boland.

A cleaner at the centre, the 45-year-old man was interviewed, but could not explain how the note ended up in his possession, Sergeant Lydford said.

Today, in a letter to the court, Boland pleaded guilty to stealing $5, and was fined $300 in his absence.
