$37,000 worth of marijuana, fireworks and tasers uncovered

A JOINT operation by Queensland Police and the Australian Border Force in North Queensland has resulted in 14 people charged with 38 offences including drug, weapons and stolen property offences.

During the two day operation codenamed North Aster included officers from Bowen CIB, Townsville Drug Squad, Collinsville, Bowen, Mackay CIB, Tactical Crime Squad and Drug task Force who were assisted by a contingent of five officers from the Australian Border Force.

Investigators focused on information received concerning illicit drugs, illegal weapons and stolen property.

Seized during the raids were quantities of methyl amphetamine, cannabis and cannabis plants with street value of about $37,000.

Also seized were 13 tasers, one unregistered firearm, an extendable baton, capsicum spray, $3,900 in cash and a small quantity of ammunition and some banned fireworks.

During searches conducted in Collinsville local police found an air compressor which had earlier been stolen from the area.

A 33-year-old Collinsville man has been charged in relation to that equipment.

Those charged so far are expected to appear in the Magistrates Court at Bowen in early 2016.

Police described the seizures as significant for the small towns of Bowen & Collinsville.

Community members are encouraged to continue providing information about drugs and stolen property to Crime Stoppers or their local police stations.

Detectives are still completing their investigations and further offenders are expected to be charged with more drug related offences.
