Today in history: New Gladstone SHS uniform, lock-up moves

ON THIS day (30 December) in Gladstone history:

1967:

New Gladstone State High School Uniform: The new uniform will be a two-piece. The skirt will be made of navy blue caesarella. It features a 5-inch box pleat in the centre with a one-inch knife pleat on either side of this, with a one-inch waistband and no belt. The length of the uniform is to the knee. The blouse will be made of a lightweight material and feature a V-neck with a long pak collar and set in short sleeves. This blouse is worn tucked into the skirt. A white panama boater with navy underlining and an official hatband is the headwear for summer. A navy blue beret and gloves are also included. The gold and navy striped school tie remains part of the new school uniform.

Ocean View Hotel: Work is well under way on the construction of the new Ocean View Hotel Motel which is to be completed within 20 weeks. Within the month a temporary bar will be set up in the units now under construction and the existing old building will be demolished.

New site for old lock-up: Gladstone's former bird cage lock-up which became redundant as a result of Gladstone's growth over recent years has found a new resting place - at the Gladstone Rugby League grounds. The old wooden cells were replaced by a modern brick cell block. The old cell block will become a dressing-room at the football grounds.
