$2m cost blowout to entertainment centre budget
THE Gladstone Entertainment Centre's redevelopment has experienced a $2 million cost blowout due to a council oversight.
The budget is about 9.5% over at $23.1 million after Gladstone Regional Council officers failed to consider council's own infrastructure charges.
Director of corporate and community services Cale Dendle said Mayor Gail Sellers expected better.
"Budgets should be properly assembled for all projects - including all internal costs," he said.
"Even though 75% of the identified $2 million cost over-run is money council will pay to itself ... this still should have been identified separately from the outset."
Another contributor to the higher costing was additions to the commercial kitchen, adding $580,000.
The facility when re-opened will be known as the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre and will go through a subsequent rebranding.
