20% discount on pet desexing until August

LOCAL vets will provide a 20% discount on animal desexing as part of RSPCA Queensland's Operation Wanted campaign.

Until the end of August, Agnes Coast Veterinary Clinic and the Boyne Tannum Veterinary Surgery will offer the discounted rates.

Gladstone Regional Council's Cr Col Chapman hoped the campaign would lessen the burden of feral and stray animals in the region.

"RSPCA Queensland's goal is to desex an additional 30,000 animals from June to August this year than it did in the corresponding period last year as there are not enough households available to cater for the large volume of unwanted animals being born," Cr Chapman said.

"Desexing is the best solution to dog and cat homelessness and overpopulation in Queensland."

Additionally to a healthier, safer pet, people who take up the offer will be in the running to win prizes too.

Prizes to be won in the campaign include a black Harley Davidson 2015 FLSTF Fat Boy motorcycle (first prize), a black Harley Davidson 2015 XL1200X '48 (second prize), and third and fourth prizes of $500 RSPCA World for Pets online store vouchers.
