19,224 breath tests nab 90 drink-drivers across the region

ALMOST 40 people have been hurt in 26 crashes and 2988 speedsters were nabbed across the central Queensland region in the past six days.

The injury tally hit 38 late yesterday as the Queensland Police Christmas/New Year road safety campaign entered its sixth day.

Police nabbed 90 drink-drivers from 19,224 road breath tests and booked 52 drivers for using their mobile phones.

Up to 12.01am yesterday MONDAY, 37 people have been busted for not wearing a seatbelt and there have been 707 other road rule offences.

The statistics are part of Queensland Police's Christmas road safety campaign, Operation Crossroads, which kicked off on December 23 and ends on January 3.

The region covers Mackay, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Sunshine Coast, Fraser Coast and Gympie.
