Accused bikie's family offers court $100,000 bail surety

A MAN who was arrested following a police raid of homes and an alleged Rebels bikie gang clubhouse at Tweed Heads last year has been granted bail after his family offered the court $100,000 surety.

Joshua John Lucey, 29, is accused of trafficking meth and trafficking MDMA while being the "office bearer" for a criminal gang.

He faces 16 charges that include participating in a criminal organisation and supplying and possessing drugs.

Mr Lucey applied for bail in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday.

The prosecutor did not want Mr Lucey on bail because she was worried the seriousness of the charges and the likelihood of jail if he was convicted would tempt him to flee.

But Justice David Boddice said there was nothing in Mr Lucey's history to show he was at risk of breaching strict bail conditions.

The court heard he had been behind bars for eight months and that police were still preparing their case against him.

If convicted, he could face 25 years in jail under Queensland's bikie laws.

The court heard he also faces charges from an unrelated incident in NSW.

Justice Boddice said it was not relevant that the Queensland government was reviewing the bikie legislation.

"At the end of the day, I have to deal with the law as it is. I'll be dealing with him on the basis that this is what he faces," he said.

The court heard Mr Lucey has dissociated himself from the Rebels bikie gang and Justice Boddice said there was no evidence to show he had had any contact with the gang since being charged.

He granted Mr Lucey bail with strict conditions that he has to report to Logan Police Station every day and be at his parent's house 9pm-5.30am.
