WHILE Premier Anna Bligh and Campbell Newman are splashed across newspapers and televisions daily, what are our local candidates up to?

Labor candidate Glenn Butcher had a campaign meeting yesterday and nailed down his "plan of attack".

"We've been discussing which groups to go and visit ... I want to get out and shake hands and chat to people," Mr Butcher said.

He has also been holding street stalls near McDonald's and had a stall at the Kmart markets last weekend.

"I've had a very good response and no negative stuff," Mr Butcher said.

"Last Friday night we held a campaign fundraiser which had 140 people there."

He plans to hold a campaign launch on March 2.

Liz Cunningham is carrying on with her duties as the incumbent member, meeting with constituents and representing the community.

She admits she has never had an official campaign launch.

"My campaign is a three-year one," Mrs Cunningham said.

"During the term I work as hard as I can for the community."

She has been in talks with the Labor and Liberal-National parties about infrastructure issues in Gladstone, such as the lack of childcare places and the housing crisis affecting much of the region.

Mrs Cunningham will hold a fundraiser luncheon on March 2 at the Yaralla Sports Club.

Katter Party candidate Anthony Beezley is taking things one day at a time.

He's hoping Bob Katter will make it to Gladstone soon.

"But the big red bus broke down somewhere," he joked.

Mr Beezley has been getting good feedback and comments from people on the street.

"I'll be really happy when those comments turn into votes," he said.

He met with the Gladstone Regional Council councillors and Mayor Gail Sellers on Tuesday and said he is enjoying getting pulled up on the street by constituents.

"But it's a long race and in voting, people are fickle," he said.

Queenslanders will go to the polls on March 24.
