A 14-YEAR-OLD male received burns to 30% of his body after he and other youths broke into a memorial hall at Moura, trashing it and trying to set it on fire.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said a small number of youths entered the Moura Memorial Club on Bell St yesterday morning and were larking about with chemicals before leaving the premises just before midday.

Owner of the hall Greg Lee said the youths had just trashed the building, including smashing up bars and fridges.

"They broke in and tried to set fire to it," he said.

"They've done a fair bit of damage. All the doors are all smashed, and the windows. Every toilet in the place has been smashed. All the old trophies inside were smashed."

Mr Lee, a Biloela businessman, said he was told the burnt youth ran outside and a council worker saw him.

The youth was transported to Moura Hospital, then by air to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a serious condition yesterday afternoon.
