Blackwater SES deputy controller Tom Wood and an upgraded flood water rescue boat, made possible by a donation from BMA.
THANKS to a $12,500 donation from BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance, the Blackwater State Emergency Services team was finally able to upgrade its flood boat.
This has come in time for the preparation for this year's wet season.
The boat upgrade will help with providing the Blackwater community and surrounding districts safe and reliable shallow water search and rescue equipment.
Blackwater Mine general manager Paul Hemburrow said BMA was proud to support the Blackwater SES, which played a critical role in ensuring the safety of local communities.
"The local SES is an essential service to the community in times of emergency such as floods, fires, accidents and other natural or man-made disasters, so it is important that we provide support," Mr Hemburrow said.
"Our donation will provide the SES with an upgraded rescue boat for use in incidents involving flooded waterways or roads."
Blackwater SES deputy controller Tom Wood said the team was grateful for BMA's ongoing support and funding.
"The boat upgrade will improve our critical flood rescue equipment, which provides an essential service for Blackwater and the wider district," he said.
"BMA's donation has allowed us to replace the existing 20-year-old outboard motor and repair the floor of the flood boat.
With the new motor fitted, the boat will be available for use during the wet season."
The Blackwater SES team was made up of 22 volunteers, including 18 employees of BMA.
