Exodus Tutorial Centre open for year

JUST three weeks in and their tutors are already noticing the difference.

Since the Exodus Tutorial Centre was founded in 2001, 365 students have been through the program.

As founder Chris Tanner said, "That's one child for every day of the year".

The centre works with students in grade 5 to 7 who have reading ages two years below the state average.

The goal: to give them the skills to become independent readers.

The 16 kids in this course come from Central, Boyne Island, Tannum Sands and Benaraby.

They'll attend the Exodus Tutorial Centre each day for an entire seme8 ster.

In hands-on teaching time that equates to 320 hours.

The centre operates out of Gladstone South Primary School.

And while there is a dedicated legion of volunteers, more are always needed.
