BECHTEL will soon be one of the largest employers in the Gladstone region so here is some tailored advice as to how to cash in on the resources boom.
Bechtel currently employs more than 4000 people throughout the region but as the Curtis Island LNG projects ramp up, workforce numbers are expected to peak at more than 8000 people by 2013.
But while there will be huge demand for the company to fill these roles, those hoping to secure a role with Bechtel need to follow the recruitment processes.
Bechtel recruitment supervisor Joel Herbert said the first step a prospective employee should take is to register their interest either online or at the Bechtel Recruitment Centre on Alf O'Rourke Drive, Gladstone.
"Our recruitment process starts when you register your interest," Mr Herbert said.
"It's very important you do this because this is where your work history, locality, contact details, and other relevant information is disclosed,
"We receive hundreds of applications each week so be concise and provide all the relevant information requested.
"Keeping those details up-to-date is key because it may be six months before specific roles as required," he said.
While Bechtel's demand for skilled workers is high, Mr Herbert said recruitment is driven by the project's construction schedule.
"We don't need 9000 jobs filled today. The size and timing of our recruitment drives mirror what the projects need at the time and over a three month outlook," he said.
"There are many people in the local community with the skills Bechtel require. Recruiting for three separate projects on Curtis Island means we need different workers at different times."
Mr Herbert said Bechtel would consider anyone with the right attitude, safety awareness and relative experience in the required field.
"There is career progression, training opportunities and the chance to work on a multi-billion dollar project all in our backyard," Mr Herbert said.
"You can build your career as you build some of the most challenging and complex projects in the world."
