Works to close Marina Bridge

Tags: council, gladstone marina, works

RESIDENTS and business operators are being reminded that the marina bridge will be closed from Monday for up to a week to allow for vital restoration works to be completed.

Gladstone Regional Council said signage had been placed at the entrances to the bridge and fencing will be placed around the work site early on Monday morning.

It is anticipated the bascule bridge will be left in the upright position while the works are being carried out, but there may be instances when it will be returned temporarily to the horizontal position, which may affect vessel traffic.

Infrastructure Services portfolio spokesperson Councillor Matt Burnett said people could use the alternative marina access via Alf O'Rourke Drive during the works.

"This work is essential and it requires Council leaving the bridge in the vertical, open position for most part, so residents, whether they be on foot, bicycles or motorised vehicles, will not be able to access the marina via this route," Cr Burnett said.

Information on the closure is available on Council's website www.gladstone.qld.gov.au
